Expect short-term lane closures near 57th and South Lake Shore Drive

As the South Lake Shore Drive project proceeds into its final year, crews this Monday (Jan. 12) will begin short-term median work along South Lake Shore Drive near 57th Drive. Here's what drivers will find:
  • Beginning after Monday's morning rush hour (Jan. 12), traffic will be down to two lanes in each direction between 55th Street and Science Drive (approx. 5800 south).
  • The short-term median work will last about four weeks and will require:
    • Full-time lane closure for northbound traffic. Two lanes will remain open for northbound traffic.
    • Daytime closures for southbound traffic only. Evening rush hour motorists will have all three southbound lanes available to them, but the lanes will be slightly narrowed in the area between 56th and 57th.
  • Drivers are urged to be extra cautious in the area due to the close proximity of work crews and construction equipment.
  • In all other areas between 23rd Street and 67th Street, drivers should always expect intermittent non-rush hour lane closures in both directions.
