Reconstruction of 57th Drive to begin March 15thAs the
South Lake Shore Drive project proceeds in its final year, crews on
Monday (March 15) will begin the reconstruction of 57th Drive
between Hyde Park Blvd. and Lake Shore Drive in front of the Museum
of Science and Industry. Here's what drivers will find:
- After the morning rush on March 15th, work crews will close
the one-block stretch of 57th Drive to eastbound traffic.
- During construction, traffic will be limited to two westbound
lanes only; 57th Drive will be closed to eastbound traffic until
the end of May.
- Drivers who normally enter Lake Shore Drive via eastbound 57th
Drive will need to detour via one of the following routes:
- Travel south via Cornell Drive or Stony Island Ave. and
enter Lake Shore Drive at Hayes Dr. (6300 south); or,
- Travel north via Hyde Park Blvd., Lake Park Ave., Cornell
Ave., Stony Island Ave. or Cottage Grove Ave. and enter Lake
Shore Drive at 47th Street.
- Drivers, especially those during the morning rush, should
allow extra time due to the potential for heavier than normal
traffic seeking access to Lake Shore Drive at 47th Street and
Hayes Drive.
- In all other areas between 23rd Street and 67th Street,
drivers should continue to expect intermittent non-rush hour lane
closures in both directions.
