Expect northbound lane closures during next few days along Lake Shore Dr. in Burnham Park

As the South Lake Shore Drive reconstruction project progresses, northbound drivers from 47th Street to 31st Street should expect possible delays due to lane closures in the area tomorrow and early next week. HereÕs what drivers will find:
  • From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow (March 15), inbound traffic will be down from three lanes to two lanes from 47th Street to 31st Street.
  • At 47th Street, traffic will have a choice of staying in the only open local lane or merging into the reversible lane.
  • The first exist for traffic entering the reversible lane will be 18th St.
  • Then, at 8 p.m. Monday night (March 17) through 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, traffic will be down to two lanes northbound between 43rd Street and Oakwood Blvd. (3900 south).
  • Once again, traffic will have to choose the local lane or the reversible lane.
  • The lane closures are necessary so work crews may safely pour concrete for new northbound lanes.
  • Drivers are encouraged to consider use of any of the alternative routes to by-pass possible delays on Lake Shore Drive. Alternative routes include Cottage Grove Avenue, Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, and the Dan Ryan expressway.
