South Lake Shore Drive work to continue through this weekend

As the South Lake Shore Drive reconstruction project progresses, extensive work continues in both Burnham and Jackson Parks and drivers should expect possible delays due to lane closures in the area. Here's what drivers will find:
  • From 7 p.m. tonight (May 16) to 8 p.m. Sunday (May 18), Jeffery Drive will be closed between Marquette Drive (6600 south) and 67th Street in Jackson Park.
    • As a detour, drivers may use South Shore Drive on the east or Stony Island Ave on the west.
    • The full-weekend closure is necessary for work crews to safely resurface both directions of Jeffery Drive.
  • From 2 a.m. Saturday morning (May 17) to 5 a.m. Monday morning (May 19), northbound traffic will be down from three lanes to two lanes from 47th Street to 31st Street in Burnham Park, including the reversible lane which is accessible at 47th Street.
    • The first exit for traffic entering the reversible lane is 18th St.
    • Two lanes of traffic will be maintained at all times and drivers should expect lane configuration changes and possible delays in the area.
    • The lane closures are necessary for work crews may safely pour concrete for new northbound lanes.
