Lane reductions this weekend along South Lake Shore Drive

As the South Lake Shore Drive reconstruction project progresses, drivers should plan for possible delays due to lane closures in the Burnham Park area. Here's what drivers will find:
  • From 4 a.m. tomorrow (June 7) until 5 a.m. Sunday morning (June 8), northbound traffic will be down from three lanes to two lanes between 35th Street and the Stevenson Expressway (I-55).
    • One of the open lanes will be the reversible lane, accessible at 47th Street. The first exit for traffic entering the reversible lane is 18th Street.
    • The lane closures are necessary for work crews to safely pour concrete for new northbound lanes.
  • Also beginning Saturday morning (June 7) and continuing until July, work crews will close the far right "connector" lane that runs from the Stevenson Expressway exit ramp to the 31st Street exit ramp along southbound Lake Shore Drive.
    • Stevenson Expressway traffic seeking access to southbound Lake Shore Drive must yield and merge into mainline Lake Shore Drive traffic. Drivers need to exercise extra caution when merging and should be prepared to stop.
    • The lane closure is necessary for work crews to safely pour concrete for a new connector lane.
