Ramp closure and major traffic configuration changes coming to South Lake Shore Drive

As the South Lake Shore Drive reconstruction project progresses, drivers should expect possible delays and configuration changes starting this weekend and continuing into early next week. Here's what drivers will find:
  • From 8 p.m. Friday (June 13) until 5 a.m. Monday morning (June 16), the exit ramp from the inbound Stevenson Expressway (I-55) to southbound Lake Shore Drive will be closed.
  • As a detour, drivers may choose from one of two routes:
    • Enter northbound Lake Shore Drive and, exit and re-enter southbound Lake Shore Drive at 18th Street; or,
    • Exit the Stevenson at Martin Luther King Drive, travel south to 31st Street, then east to Lake Shore Drive.
    • Drivers should be aware that Lake Shore Drive will be closed during Sunday's Bike-the-Drive event from 5 a.m. until 10 a.m.
  • This temporary closure is necessary for the safe reconstruction of the bottom of the exit ramp as part of the South Lake Shore Drive reconstruction project.
  • Then, beginning Monday morning (June 16), the following simultaneous changes will affect motorists in Jackson Park:
    • Northbound Coast Guard Drive from Marquette Drive (6600 south) to Hayes Drive (6300 south) will reopen to traffic; southbound traffic will continue to detour at 57th Drive.
    • Westbound Marquette Drive will close from South Shore Drive to Jeffery Drive for reconstruction. Traffic will detour west on 67th Street, then north on Jeffery Drive.
    • Work in this area will continue until September.
