Lanes to reopen along South Lake Shore Drive between 23rd Street and 47th Street

As the South Lake Shore Drive reconstruction project progresses, there's good news to report for drivers in the Burnham Park area. Here's what drivers will find:
  • By Monday morning's rush hour (June 23), there will be three lanes open in each direction between 23rd Street and 47th Street.
    • Work still continues in the area and drivers should expect intermittent off-peak lane closures.
    • Although lanes are reopening, the speed limit will remain at 35 mph throughout the construction zone.
  • Then, in early July, CDOT expects to reopen all four lanes in the area.
  • The near-completion of the South Lake Shore Drive roadwork in Burnham Park brings to an end the unique moveable barrier system - or "zipper wall" - which helped improve traffic flow in the area for the past year.
