South Lake Shore Drive: Newly reconstructed lanes to open to traffic from 56th Street north

As the South Lake Shore Drive reconstruction project progresses, there's good news to report for drivers in the Burnham Park area. Here's what drivers will find:
  • Tomorrow (July 2), traffic in the Burnham Park section of South Lake Shore Drive will begin using the newly reconstructed roadway in both directions between 23rd Street and 56th Street.
  • There will be four lanes in each direction between 23rd Street and 47th Street; and three lanes in each direction from 47th Street to 56th Street.
  • As the roadway work draws to a close in the Burnham Park area, major landscaping improvements begin, and drivers should expect intermittent off-peak lane closures.
  • Although lanes are reopening, the speed limit will remain at 35 mph throughout the construction zone from 23rd Street to 67th Street.
