Expect possible delays due to South Lake Shore Drive lane closures

As the South Lake Shore Drive reconstruction project progresses, drivers should expect possible delays, especially in the Burnham Park area. Here's what drivers will find:
  • Beginning at 6 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 18), southbound Lake Shore Drive from 23rd Street to 47th Street will be down to three open lanes.
  • Then, at 3 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 20), southbound traffic from 23rd Street to Hyde Park Blvd. (5100 south) will be reduced to two open lanes.
  • At 9:30 a.m. after the morning rush hour on Thursday (Sept. 18), northbound Lake Shore Drive from 47th Street to 23rd Street will be down to three open lanes. Then, at 9:30 a.m. on Friday (Sept. 19), northbound Lake Shore Drive in the area will be reduced to two open lanes.
  • The reductions are necessary due to concrete repairs in the area
  • Northbound lanes should reopen by 5 a.m. and southbound lanes by 3 p.m. on Monday (Sept. 22).
  • In other areas, drivers should always expect intermittent non-rush hour lane closures in both directions between 23rd Street and 57th Drive.
