Lane closures tonight, major configuration changes tomorrow along South Lake Shore Drive

As the South Lake Shore Drive reconstruction project winds down, drivers should expect new openings, closures and traffic configuration changes. Tonight and throughout the day tomorrow (Nov. 7), the following openings and closings will take place:
  • For tonight (Nov. 6), drivers in Burnham Park should expect:
    • From 9-11 p.m., traffic on South Lake Shore Drive will be down to 2 lanes in each direction at Oakwood Blvd. (3900 south).
    • Then, from 11 p.m. to 12 a.m., traffic on South Lake Shore Drive will be down to one lane in each direction in the same area.
    • Overhead work in the area requires that the lanes be closed.

  • For Friday (Nov. 7), drivers in Jackson Park should expect:
    • Southbound Coast Guard Drive, from Hayes Drive (6300 south) to Marquette Drive (6600 south), will reopen to traffic.
    • Westbound Marquette Drive in the area of La Rabida Children's Hospital, from the Jeffery Drive/Coast Guard Drive intersection to 67th Street, will reopen to traffic.
    • Both directions of Marquette Drive, from the Jeffery Drive/Coast Guard Drive intersection west to Richards Drive, will be closed to traffic for about a month. This closure is necessary for the reconstruction of Marquette Drive.
    • Both directions of Richards Drive at Hayes Drive will be closed to traffic for about a month. This closure is necessary for the completion of roadwork in the Golden Lady Circle area.
    • raffic seeking access to the inner harbor boat house or the Jackson Park Golf Course should enter Richards Drive via Marquette Drive from Cornell Drive or Stony Island Avenue.

  • In other areas - especially in Burnham Park between 23rd Street and 57th Drive - drivers should always expect intermittent non-rush hour lane closures in both directions.
