New configuration coming along South Lake Shore Drive between 47th Street and 57th Drive

South Lake Shore Drive work crews this weekend will begin to shift northbound traffic onto the southbound side of the roadway. As drivers approach the area near the Museum of Science and Industry, hereีs what they will find:
  • All day tomorrow (Jan. 25), barrier walls will be moved into place between 47th Street and 57th Drive.
  • During this process, drivers should expect lane shifts and intermittent traffic stoppages, as construction equipment moves in and out of the area.
  • The resulting configuration will direct northbound traffic onto the southbound side of Lake Shore Drive. Both directions of traffic will share the southbound side with two lanes in each direction separated by concrete barrier wall in that area between 47th Street and 57th Drive.
  • By Monday morning (Jan. 27), northbound drivers should expect a new configuration as they use Lake Shore Drive from 57th Drive to 47th Street.
