Exit ramp from southbound Lake Shore Drive to 53rd Street closes Thursday

As the South Lake Shore Drive reconstruction continues southbound from 23rd Street to 57th Drive, a new closure will require outbound motorists to seek alternate routes. Here's what drivers will find and how they may avoid possible delays:

  • Southbound Lake Shore Drive exit ramp to 53rd Street closed beginning 5 a.m. Thursday, July 18 through August.

  • The ramp closure is necessary to facilitate reconstruction of adjacent sections of South Lake Shore Drive.

  • Suggested alternate exits include Hyde Park Blvd. or 57th Drive. Motorists may avoid the area completely by taking one of the many South Side alternate routes including King Dr., Cottage Grove Ave., Lake Park Ave., or Stony Island Ave.
