Lake Shore Drive at 31st St. to Close Overnight Next Week

As the South Lake Shore Drive reconstruction progresses, work crews will begin the demolition of the 31st Street Bridge over both directions of Lake Shore Drive. Barring unforeseen difficulties or inclement weather, here's what drivers will find and how they may avoid possible delays:

  • Lake Shore Drive will be closed at 31st Street during the overnight hours on Tuesday (Sept. 3), Wednesday (Sept. 4) and Thursday (Sept. 5). Closures will begin at 10 p.m. and end at 5 a.m. the following morning.

  • Traffic will be directed off and then back onto Lake Shore Drive using the 31st Street ramps.

  • No turns will be permitted for northbound traffic exiting at 31st Street. Northbound traffic seeking access to destinations west on 31st Street should use the Oakwood Blvd. (3900 south) exit ramp as an alternative.
