2014 Taxicab Driver Excellence Award


Commissioner Maria Guerra Lapacek, Commissioner of the City of Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP), recently presented David Tuffs with the “2014 Taxicab Driver Excellence Award.” Tuffs is being rewarded based on his outstanding service to the disability community, and will receive a free Chicago taxicab medallion.

Visit the City of Chicago Data Portal for all Public Passenger Vehicle licenses and Public Chauffeur licenses. 

BACP oversees taxicabs in Chicago including rates of fare, public chauffeur licensing, taxicab inspections, and purchasing medallions. You can file a Taxicab compliment or complaint online or by calling 311. Please make sure you have the cab number when you call.

CITY OF CHICAGO TAXICAB FARE RATES and INFORMATION

FARE RATES as of January 1, 2016

Flag Pull (Base Fare) $ 3.25
Each additional mile $ 2.25
Every 36 seconds of time elapsed $ 0.20
First additional passenger $ 1.00
Each additional passenger after first passenger* $ 0.50 
Vomit Clean-up Fee $50.00
Illinois Airport Departure Tax** $ 4.00


*Applies only to additional passengers aged 13 through 64.
**Applies only to taxi fares leaving the airports.

•     Tolls are an extra charge to the passenger.
•     The fare does not include a tip.
•     There is no extra charge for baggage or baggage handling.
•     If your driver chooses to assist you, tipping is appropriate.

TAP CARD USERS: TAP (Taxi Access Program) card users are responsible for any fare amount exceeding the TAP allowance of $13.50.

TRIPS TO SUBURBS, NOT FROM AIRPORT: The rate of fare is STRAIGHT METER to the city limits PLUS ONE-HALF the STRAIGHT METERED FARE from the city limit to the suburban destination.

AIRPORTS
A $4.00 airport departure tax is levied by the State of Illinois per trip, not per person.

TRIPS TO SUBURBS FROM AIRPORT: Trips from the airports to all suburbs, except those listed below, are STRAIGHT METER PLUS ONE-HALF the STRAIGHT METERED FARE from the airport to the suburban destination.

The following are straight meter fares:Alsip, Bedford Park, Blue Island, Burbank, Burnham, Calumet City, Calumet Park, Cicero, Des Plaines, Dolton, Elk Grove Village, Elmwood Park, Evanston, Evergreen Park, Forest View, Harwood Heights, Hines VA Hospital, Hometown, Lincolnwood, Merrionette Park, Niles, Norridge, Oak Lawn, Oak Park, Park Ridge, Riverdale, River Grove, Rosemont, Skokie, Stickney, and Summit.

FLAT TAXI SHARED RATES: Two or more independent travelers may choose to share a taxi  from a designated airport cab stand for a flat rate per person at the following rates:

“Downtown” is 22nd Street to Fullerton Avenue, Ashland Avenue to Lake Michigan, and includes McCormick Place.

PASSENGERS

YOU MAY:
•    Request a receipt.
•    Travel accompanied by a service animal.
•    Request adjustment of A/C, heat, windows, or radio volume.
PLEASE:
•    Report a cab driver who is talking, texting on a cell phone or refusing to accept a credit card to 311.
•    Turn in found items to the taxicab driver.
