A product recall occurs when the government, through its U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, removes a product from market because it is dangerous and can injure or kill a child or adult. This is usually done in cooperation with the manufacturer. The City of Chicago's Department of Business Affairs & Consumer Protection (BACP) provides consumers with information about recalled products and ensures that these recalled products are removed from store shelves.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) works with industry and state partners to publish press releases and other public notices about recalls that may potentially present a significant or serious risk to the consumer or user of the product.
