Horse Drawn Carriage

A Horse Drawn Carriage License is required for carriages or any device where a person is or may be transported or drawn upon the public way, designed to be or capable of being driven by a horse. The license is issued at the Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection office located at 2350 W. Ogden Avenue, 1st floor.

License Requirements:

To apply for a Horse Drawn Carriage License applicants should have the following documentation and a completed license application form.

  • Legal Entity documents such as Corporate Articles and Minutes
  • Illinois Secretary of State Certificate of Good Standing
  • A certificate of insurance showing that each horse drawn carriage is insured with the following minimum requirements. $50,000 for property damages, $100,000 for injuries to or death of any one person and each horse-drawn carriage with a seating capacity of no more than seven adult passengers requires at least $300,000 for injuries to or death of more than one person in any one accident. Every insurance policy or contract for insurance must name the city as an additional insured.

 

Inspection Required:

  • Certificate of passed inspection with the City of Chicago Department of Animal Care and Control.
  • Horse License
