Permits are required for the installation of the following equipment types:
(Drawings are required)
1. Gearless (High Speed)
2. Machine room-less
3. Geared
4. Hydraulic with Cable or Direct without Cable (Maximum 7 stories)
5. Pneumatic
6. Material Lifts (Skip Hoist)
7. Handicap Lifts
8. Man Lifts (with belts-parking garages)
9. Window Washers
10. Moveable Walks
11. Stage Lifts – Theaters
12. Sidewalk Lifts
13. Escalators
14. Dock Lifts
15. Carnivals
Altering equipment/modernizing devices
Permits are required for the following alterations/modernizations :
(Drawings are Required)
1. Controller
2. Door Operator
3. Car Operating Panel
4. Pump Motor and Valve Upgrades
5. Phase I and II Installation or Upgrade
6. Hydraulic Piston Re-sleeving or replacing with new Jack
7. Car and Counter Weight Safety Upgrades or Replacement
8. Piston Gripper/ Grabber
9. Cable Grabber
10. Car reader
Repair Permits:
Permits are required for the following types of repairs to any device that requires an installation permit:
1. Armature rewinds or change-outs/ Motor Field Replacement or Rewinds
2. Governor Change – Requires Tack and pull-through pull-out and Full Load Test
3. Travelers Cables replacement
4. Compensation Ropes replacement
5. Buffers replacement – Also needs Buffer Test after the replacement
6. Any major door work and adjustment, operator change
7. Hoist Ropes replacement
8. Repairs to Cab caused by damage
9. Main Machine drive Sheaves Gearless and Geared
10. Pump Motor and Valve for Hydraulic
11. Card reader
Note: The property manager must keep on file the following:
1. Certificate that all elevators full load (drop) test was performed every 5 years.
2. Pressure test was conducted for all hydraulic elevators yearly.
Permits Not Required
Permits are not required for the following alterations/modernizations/repairs:
1. Door Restrictor (Car door)
2. Phones
3. Emergency Lighting
4. Door Edge
