The Chicago Green Homes Program (CGHP) is a voluntary certification program for Chicago homeowners, residential builders, and developers looking to incorporate sustainable design into their residential building. The CGHP provides a flexible framework for innovative construction, while contributing to environmental awareness and sustainable living throughout the City.
To begin your enrollment, submit the Application documents (Applicant Agreement and appropriate Initial Checklist) found below to chicagogreenhomes@cityofchicago.org, using the CGHP GUIDE v2.0 for reference.
Initial Checklists:
Once your Application documents have been received, you will attend a mandatory Orientation Session, afterwards submitting a revised Contractual Checklist, permitting drawings, and Enrollment Form.
When all documents have been reviewed, your home is then officially enrolled in the Chicago Green Homes Program! Applicants enrolled with two starts or higher can choose to proceed into the Chicago Green Permit Program.
Upon completion of construction, your project is ready for verification and final certification. An updated, Final Checklist, indicating what was actually built, should be submitted, along with a Project Verification Form and any supporting documents.
Upcoming Orientation Session Dates
CGHP Orientation Sessions are held for projects already in the application process. Sessions take place every other Thursday from 2-5 p.m. at the Chicago Center for Green Technology.
Whether constructing a new or renovating an existing home, building sustainably is far more simpler and attainable then many of us realize. It is also one of the most significant ways to protect our environment.
Join us, along with fellow Chicagoans, in becoming a catalyst for change as we achieve these sustainable environments, in the city of Chicago and beyond.
