New CDOT bike rack installations!

October 7, 2011

CDOT bike racks are back!  On September 29th, contractor crews began installing bike racks throughout the City of Chicago.  To date, about 150 of the 750 racks scheduled have been installed.  These installations, which CDOT expects to complete by the end of October, mark the first in a four-year project providing 2400 new bike racks citywide.  Funded by the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) improvement grant program, this project allows CDOT to continue its popular bike parking program through 2014.  The Bicycle Parking team has also begun an effort to address abandoned bikes citywide, with over 100 bikes removed and donated to charity so far, and more to come through the fall and winter.  To learn more about the CDOT Bicycle Parking Program, request a bike rack, or to report an abandoned bike, please visit us at www.chicagobikeracks.org, or call 311.
