Report Street Lights All Out

There are more than 250,000 street lights in Chicago that illuminate both arterial and residential streets.  Many of these lamps have been equipped with photocells rather than clock timers in an effort to conserve energy.

Street lamp outages should be reported immediately to the city’s 311 customer service line; this same number also should be called if tree branches block the light from street lamps creating shadows on the street or sidewalk.

Through various city programs, new residential street lighting systems have been installed on more than 2,000 blocks throughout the city. The systems include aluminum poles, brighter roadway fixtures and pedestrian access fixtures.
