CHICAGO – The Chicago Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) annual “Family Flu Days” kick off this Saturday, Oct. 26 at Kennedy King College and Truman College from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  “Family Flu Days” are special events that provide parents and children the opportunity to get their flu shot together in a fun, family-oriented environment. This year’s events include flu shots, fun activities and on-site technical assistance for families to enroll in the Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace, GetCoveredIllinois.gov.

The flu shot is the best protection against the flu and helps prevent the spread of the virus to infants, children, family members and close contacts.

Clear Channel Media and Entertainment Chicago radio personalities Joe Soto (V103) and Beto Carreto (95.5 El Patrón) will appear at select events accompanied by the station’s promotional van with prizes and other fun activities.

“Family Flu Days is a great example of how staying healthy can be a fun activity for every member of the family,” said CDPH Commissioner Bechara Choucair, M.D.  “This year we’ve incorporated health care education and support to help uninsured Chicagoans take full advantage of the new options available to them under the Federal Affordable Care Act.”

The AIDS Foundation of Chicago and The Resurrection Project will have certified in-person counselors on-site to answer questions about the new health care options and to assist individuals with enrollment on GetCoveredIllinois.gov, the state’s comprehensive online enrollment platform for uninsured residents to sign up for health coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

CDPH, The AIDS Foundation of Chicago and The Resurrection Project all are part of Mayor Emanuel’s “Enroll Chicago!” initiative that provides education about new health care options and encourages enrollment in the Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace.

In addition to “Family Flu Days,” CDPH is hosting community-based flu vaccine clinics across the city.  To make these clinics easy to find, CDPH hosts an online Flu Clinic Finder that pinpoints CDPH clinics and retail pharmacies by address.
