The Division of STI/HIV/AIDS, HIV Prevention Program works with Chicago’s community planning group, the HIV Prevention Planning Group (HPPG), to assess needs and identify priorities in order to best address the epidemic and prevent HIV disease in the city of Chicago. The HPPG is made up 35 Chicagoans who reflect the diversity of the City and the demographics of the local HIV/AIDS epidemic. The recommendations of HPPG are documented through a 2010-2011 Comprehensive HIV Prevention Plan, which is then translated into Request for Proposals (RFP) to fund prioritized populations and interventions and innovative, and new programs to stem the epidemic. The HIV Prevention Program section also monitors the grants funded through these RFPs and provides technical assistance (TA) directly to funded agencies.
