The Chicago Air and Water Show Returns to the Lakefront August 16-17

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels and U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights to headline

The 56th Annual Chicago Air and Water Show, presented by Shell and the City of Chicago, will return August 16 and 17 along the lakefront from Fullerton to Oak Street, with North Avenue Beach serving as show center from 10am–3pm daily. Strong in tradition and one of the largest free admission events of its kind, the show headliners include the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and the U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights.

“The Chicago Air and Water Show is a summertime favorite providing exciting family entertainment in the skies above Lake Michigan,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel. “For more than half a century, this event has grown into a spectacular display of aviation’s finest pilots in a unique setting making it a destination for residents and visitors alike.”

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels have been astounding audiences since 1946 with their gravity defying flying, commanding presence and supersonic maneuvers in their F/A-18 Hornets. The brave men and women of the U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights and the U.S. Navy Leap Frogs will inspire spectators as they jump out of an aircraft 12,500 feet above the earth’s surface, racing to North Avenue Beach at speeds exceeding 120 mph, making a perfect landing.

Other military demonstration teams joining the Blue Angels, Golden Knights and the Leap Frogs are the Marine MV-22 Osprey helicopter and the U.S. Air Force F-22. The show schedule for 2014 can be found at chicagoairandwatershow.us.

The popular lakefront event features a wide variety of civilian acts with daredevil pilots performing their aerial stunts in the skies above Chicago. New and returning acts confirmed for 2014 include: AeroShell Aerobatic Team, Sean D. Tucker & Team Oracle, Firebirds Delta Team, Chuck Aaron and the Red Bull Helicopter, Matt Chapman Airshows, Dave Dacy in the Super Stearman Model 70, Warbird Heritage Foundation: A-4 Skyhawk Jet Tac Demo, Aerostars, Team AeroDynamix (NEW 12-plane team) and the Chicago Fire Department Helicopter Air Sea Rescue.

2014 marks the 19th year of Shell Oil Products U.S. as the show's presenting sponsor.
