Mayor Emanuel will join the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) to announce the City Bucks program. The City Bucks program is effectively a coupon, given free to attendees at the city's West Side farmers markets. The attendees will be able to use the coupons to purchase fresh food at the west side farmers markets. DCASE has partnered with Experimental Station to coordinate this program and will begin distributing $5 “City Bucks” coupons, while supplies last, beginning this Saturday, September 28 at the West Humboldt Park Market and again on Tuesday at the Columbus Park Market. City Bucks will be valid at all five West Side Markets. Shoppers at the West Side markets, which run through the end of October, will be able to use up to two of the “City Bucks” (a total of $10) per market visit.
“Everybody’s grocery bills are growing and that’s why we use coupons and value cards when we shop, so now our west side Farmers Markets will have their own coupons,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel. “We wanted to make it a little easier for those that shop at those five markets to be able to enjoy the fresh fruits and vegetables available every week.”
The Chicago Farmers Markets program is presented by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) and COUNTRY Financial. Markets are held weekly from May through October.
The West Side Markets are:
Harrison & Central
La Follette Park
1333 N. Laramie
West Humboldt Park
3601 W. Chicago
Austin Town Hall Park
Lake & Central
Garfield Park Conservatory

All five markets already accept the LINK program. The Electronic Benefits Transfer or EBT/LINK card is the identification card for recipients of the Federal Snap Benefits Food Stamp Program that is offered throughout the State of Illinois to those who qualify.
Each of these markets also feature programming elements such as an on-site nutritionist, family activities provided by Master Gardeners, cooking demonstrations with healthy recipes using fresh product and social services related to the LINK Card.
The Chicago Farmers Markets program is presented by DCASE and COUNTRY Financial, and sponsored in part by 93 XRT, CBS 2 Chicago, WLS 890 AM & WLS 94.7 FM, Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) and the Chicago Tribune.
