Chicago Gospel Music Festival June 20-23, 2013

OVERVIEW

In 1926, Gospel Music was born in the south side of Chicago when Thomas A. Dorsey published the first song and coined the phrase “Gospel Music.” In 2012, Gospel Music came full circle as the Chicago Gospel Music Festival moved to the Bronzeville neighborhood to celebrate where it all began. Title Sponsorship opportunities include a musical side stage, Health and Wellness Oasis and a trolley tour.

  • Inaugural Choir Competition at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park

Friday, June 21, 2013

  • Daytime programming and evening film screening at the Chicago Cultural Center

Saturday, June 22 & Sunday, June 23, 2013

  • The festival moves to its new home in Bronzeville for two full days of Gospel celebration
  • Free trolley tour of historically Gospel and architecturally significant neighborhood churches (Saturday only)
  • Health Oasis featuring on-site health resources, screenings and testings
  • Past performers include: Mary Mary, Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, Smokey Robinson, Yolanda Adams and Cece Winans
  • A product market, food vendors and interactive sponsor displays complete the event
