Digging is being developed using meditation as a tool for creative research. With astrong emphasis on collaboration and exploration, meditative practice is the primary catalyst for collective choreographic development during the summer of 2013. Findings of these explorations will inform the creation of an evening-length dance theater sextet to premiere in at the Chicago Cultural Center in October of 2013, performed by Josh Anderson, Erin Kilmurray, Benjamin Law, Sarah Mitchell, Anna Normann and Mikey Rioux. Original sound compositions by Nat Evans (Seattle) and Ross Simonini (Brooklyn), Tim Russell (Milwaukee), and Ryan Ross Smith (Troy, NY) will support the work.

Digging is partially funded by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WAR F) and the Virgina Horne Henry Fund for Women’s Physical Education.

“Wonderful and unexpected”
-Matthew de la Pena, Time Out Chicago

“Relentless currents of human tension ... edgy mystery ... visually lush and true to Corby's intent.”
-Susan Kepecs, Dance Magazine

“Jarringly beautiful ... a force to be reckoned with at a national level.”
– Katie Reiser, Isthmus

“Compelling ... Corby's movement keeps you guessing and pulls you in.”
Sid Smith, Chicago Tribune

Kate Corby & Dancers

Kate Corby & Dancers (KC&D) is a contemporary arts organization committed to producing innovative dance theater works grounded in emotion, physicality and social inquiry. This uniquely eclectic group of Chicago dance artists is led by artistic director Kate Corby, who was featured in Dance Magazine’s 2011 article “Taking Off” as one of six national choreographers “on the cusp of making waves in the larger dance world.” “Compelling” and “full of gestured conflict and impish daring” (Chicago Tribune), KC&D’s collaborative work has been seen in the Midwest, New York, California, Washington, Georgia and internationally in Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Taiwan.
