Loops and Variations music series mixes new music with electronica.

Dal Niente/Johannes Kreidler

Tuesday, October 15, 2013

Claudia Cassidy Theater, 2nd Floor North

7:30pm

Dal NienteThe music of Johannes Kreidler has stirred much debate and interest with its radical computer-assisted processes, electroacoustic elements, and provocative posture. In 2008 Kreidler received broad attention for an art performance action in which he delivered 70,200 forms by truck to the GEMA head office - the German performance rights Johannes Kreidler (Photo by: Leowee Polyester)authority - in order to officially register his recent 33-second electronic piece comprised of 70,200 samples. One year after Kreidler and Dal Niente won the Kranichstein Music Prizes for composition and interpretation, respectively, the Goethe-Institut Chicago brings Kreidler to Chicago for a presentation and examination of his challenging work. University of Chicago professor Seth Brodsky will moderate a discussion with Kreidler and Dal Niente will perform his work of "outsourced" chamber music (Fremdarbeit) alongside "Charts Music", in which melodies are derived from data of the 2008 stock market crash.
