The annual intake process to receive City of Chicago assistance for emergency roof and porch repairs is being modified for 2013 and ensuing years, the Department of Housing and Economic Development (HED) announced today.
The Emergency Housing Assistance Program (EHAP) intake process will begin starting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 2, and proceed to 3 p.m. daily until program capacity is reached. The process is initiated by phone and callers are processed in the order they are received.
In previous years, the intake process started at midnight on the New Year’s Day holiday.
“Shifting the start time to 9 a.m. on the first business day of the New Year will make the intake process more predictable and less cumbersome for residents interested in this very popular program,” said HED Commissioner Andrew J. Mooney.
EHAP provides grants to income-qualified homeowners for specific types of repairs. Applications are accepted twice yearly: In the winter for roofs and porches and in the fall for heating units.
To be eligible for EHAP assistance, property owners must live on site and have a household income below 50 percent of area median income ($37,900 for a family of four). Other restrictions apply.
No changes other than the new start time are being made to the program.
The intake process is the first step in the EHAP application procedure. Not all callers will qualify to participate.
