Oct. 26 Rental Expo to Offer Information, Resources on Residential Landlord-Tenant Issues

(312) 744-9267

Whether you’re a tenant or landlord, it’s important to understand your rights and responsibilities.

The 10th Annual Rents Right Expo will provide a convenient, one-stop opportunity to learn more about rental housing. The free event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday Oct. 26, at Loyola University Chicago, 1125 W. Loyola Ave.

Co-sponsored by the Department of Housing and Economic Development and the Chicago Rents Right committee, the event will feature more than 40 exhibitors who will assist landlords and tenants with information about evictions, security deposits, maintenance issues, building code violations and other aspects of rental housing.

“The Rents Right Expo provides a forum to share information on programs and services that help tenants and landlords make informed decisions,” said HED Commissioner Andrew J. Mooney.

Bilingual workshops will cover topics such as the Chicago Residential Landlord and Tenant Ordinance, fair housing laws, and the rights of landlords and tenants during a foreclosure process. Workshop attendees will be eligible to enter a drawing to win one of six $25 gift cards.

Participating agencies include Access Living, Latino Policy Forum, Lawyers’ Committee for Better Housing, Chicagoland Bilingual Landlord Association, Metropolitan Tenants Organization, Community Investment Corporation, Illinois Department of Human Rights – Fair Housing Division, Chinese American Service League, Polish American Association, and others.
