City Council approved a $1.45 million funding plan today to complete improvements at Taylor Lauridsen Park in the New City community area.

Increment from the 47th and Halsted Tax Increment Financing District will be used to reconfigure the athletic fields, complete construction of a new field house and improve an existing playground.

The field house at the 3.5 acre park located at 647 W. Root Street is currently under construction. The park renovation and expansion is a joint partnership between the Chicago Park District and the Public Building Commission.

The completed park complex will provide the area with an additional 1.5 acres of open space through land previously acquired by the city.

This park project furthers the goal of the CitySpace Plan to expand Park recreational opportunities in underserved Chicago communities.
