Phase One: A Manufacturing Work Plan for the 21st Century

The Chicago Sustainable Strategies Initiative (CSI) is the City of Chicago’s first effort to coordinate the economic, social and environmental aspects of Chicago's manufacturing sector as part of a comprehensive plan to promote industrial growth.

With more than 50 representatives of Chicago's manufacturing sector in attendance, the initiative's inaugural meeting kicked off at City Hall on April 14, 2011.

Planning for the strategy started two years ago, when HED Sustainable Development staff successfully applied for a U.S. Department of Commerce grant for cities that have lost jobs due to international trade agreements. The $692,000 grant will be used to fund CSI and, ultimately, a formal plan to maximize Chicago's industrial future.

Details about the strategy are available in the CSI "Resource Guide" (22 MB). The guide is also available in sections below to facilitate downloading.
