Originally intended to facilitate the replacement of vacant lots in the Grand Boulevard community with high-quality mixed-income housing developments, the 43rd/Cottage TIF district was soon expanded to promote commercial activities. The expanded portion includes the east side of Cottage Grove Avenue and the south side of 47th Street, where new retailers and service providers are planned to occupy the ground-level portions of mixed-use projects. In addition to assisting with site assembly and infrastructure improvement activities, increment from the district is intended to support job training and readiness programs for area residents.
