Chicago Lakeside Phase 1 TIF

Designation: 2010    Repealed: 2017

The Lakeside TIF district (Phase 1) is designed to foster the redevelopment of 87 acres of the former South Works Steel Mill site on the Far South Side lakefront. The mill closed permanently in 1992 and the site was cleared of above-ground structures by the end of the decade. The TIF is intended to promote road construction and other public infrastructure projects required for its redevelopment as a mixed-use community. Funds are also targeted for survey work, property assembly expenses, and other redevelopment costs.
