Chinatown Basin TIF

Designation: 1986    Expiration: 2010

The Chinatown Basin TIF was created to assist the residential and commercial expansion of Chinatown onto former railroad property immediately north of the neighborhood. Funds from the 30-acre TIF provided resources to assemble the land and establish a system of roadways to support new development consisting of low-rise commercial properties, residential townhomes, and mixed-use buildings. Located within portions of the Near South Side and the Armour Square communities, the TIF is also intended to fund infrastructure improvements and neighborhood amenities that promote private investment.
