Grand Opening of Yoga Room at O'Hare International Airport

CHICAGO – The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) is pleased to announce the official opening of its newest amenity for travelers. The Yoga Room at O’Hare International Airport is located on the Mezzanine Level of the Terminal 3 Rotunda, adjacent to the O’Hare Urban Garden.

“On behalf of Mayor Rahm Emanuel, we are excited to offer this oasis for passengers traveling through Chicago’s global gateway, O’Hare International Airport,” said CDA Commissioner Rosemarie S. Andolino. “The Yoga Room provides a space for yoga practice as well as a place to relax or meditate. This is yet another amenity to help make the travel experience at O’Hare ‘best-in-class’.”

The 15x16-foot Yoga Room features a sustainable bamboo wood floor, floor to ceiling mirrors on one wall, exercise mats and an area to place personal articles and garments. Frosted windows on one side of the room let in natural light while providing discretion from adjacent public spaces. A wall-mounted video monitor in the room displays yoga exercise techniques and imagery of nature, and the audio plays soothing sounds. A public restroom nearby on the Mezzanine is available for changing clothes.

Plants line the outside of the windows and soft earth tone wall colors create a calming environment for yoga practice and relaxation. The Yoga Room is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The CDA expects to open a similar space at Midway International Airport in the near future.
