Across the world, healthcare is going through a period of unprecedented transformation enabled by the introduction of new information and communications technologies. Thoughtful use of these new “health IT” tools is driving improvements in the accessibility, quality and efficiency of care delivered by the healthcare system. As importantly, technology can also help create entirely new healthcare delivery models and systems.
The City’s Health Information Technology Initiative aims to secure Chicago’s position as a global center of excellence in this health IT movement. By coordinating efforts across institutions and sectors, the Initiative is fostering growth of the City’s health IT industry, driving creation of high value jobs across skill levels, and improving health outcomes for Chicagoans. Jointly led by the Department of Public Health and Department of Innovation and Technology, the City’s health IT efforts are a part of Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s vision for using technology to create a better and healthier Chicago.
