Many people have heroes. Some are admired because they can throw a baseball or kick a soccer ball. Some star in a tv show or make music videos. And some aren't even real.

Our hero, DeShawn Shepherd, is 100% real. He's a Chicago kid who was once a gang member and was headed the wrong way in life. But DeShawn wanted to take control of his life and was able to do so with the help of our One Summer Chicago/One Summer PLUS programs. DeShawn turned his life around and is now going after the greatness that he was meant to achieve. He is also serving as an inspiration for countless other youth who might otherwise not see a way forward! Here is more about DeShawn and his story.
