Property Tax Calculator:

The property tax calculator is for illustrative purposes only. These figures assume that property taxes would be levied to pay the cost of actuarially funding the six City-related pension plans. For FABF and PABF, the figures reflect the framework set forth in P.A. 96-1495. For CTPF, the figures reflect the framework set forth in P.A. 96-0889. For LABF, MEABF, and PEABF, the figures reflect a 40-year actuarial funding program to 90% of their projected liabilities at an 8% actuarially assumed rate of return. The actuarial funding assumed for LABF, MEABF, and PEABF is not based on current funding requirements for those plans; it is a reflection of what would be needed to fund those plans in a manner that would address their current shortfalls, similar to how P.A. 96-1495 addresses the current shortfalls for FABF and PABF. These figures assume no other changes are made to benefits or the funding approach set forth in State law for any of the six pension plans. These figures are intended solely to provide an understanding of the financial realities facing the pension plans and not as a statement of policy direction by the City of Chicago.

The Debt Clicker:

The debt clicker is for illustrative purposes only. These figures approximate the growth in the unfunded liabilities of the six City-related pension plans. For FABF, PABF, and CTPF, the figures reflect current law. For LABF, MEABF, and PEABF, the figures assume that beginning in 2017, the pension plans’ respective employer contributions will be at a level to bring the plans to a 90% funded ratio by the end of each plans’ FY 2056. The figures for LABF, MEABF, and PEABF are not based on current funding requirements for those plans; they reflect what would be needed to fund those plans in a manner that would address their current shortfalls, similar to how P.A. 96-1495 addresses the current shortfalls for FABF and PABF. These figures assume no other changes are made to benefits or the funding approach set forth in State law for any of the six pension plans. These figures are intended solely to provide an understanding of the financial realities facing the pension plans and not as a statement of policy direction by the City of Chicago.
