Mayor Rahm Emanuel and leaders of Chicago’s Ukrainian community today discussed the City’s commitment to support those affected by the continuing conflict in Ukraine. Mayor Emanuel listened to stories of the members’ friends and family in Ukraine and emphasized the City’s continuing efforts to meet special requests in support of the citizens in Kyiv, one of Chicago’s twenty eight Sister Cities.

“Chicago’s Ukrainian community has made important contributions to the fabric of Chicago and continues to play a key role in our cultural, civic and economic life. From our significant Ukrainian population to our Sister City of Kyiv, Chicago and Ukraine have a strong shared heritage.” said Mayor Emanuel. “I stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine who are peacefully pursuing freedom and democracy. Chicago will continue to support all Ukrainians and our local Ukrainian community who are supporting their brothers and sisters in this time of conflict."

Members of Chicago’s City Council and Illinois leadership continue to support the Ukrainian community as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine persists. The City Council recently introduced and will soon issue a resolution, to be presented to the Consulate General of Ukraine in Chicago, calling for the city, state and nation to stand in solidarity with Ukraine as its works toward a peaceful end to the conflict.
