Mayor Emanuel Statement on Monetary Assistance Program

Mayor's Press Office    312.744.3334

“Our students’ ability to attend college should not be held hostage to the Governor’s political agenda. I applaud efforts made by Democratic legislative leaders who pushed to override the Governor’s shortsighted veto of funding for the Monetary Assistance Program, which makes it possible for thousands of Chicago’s students to afford a college education. In Chicago, we believe that a college degree should be determined by a student’s willingness to work, not their ability to pay.”
