10 Year Plan to End Homelessness
n January 2003, the Mayor endorsed a 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness (the Plan) that was developed in conjunction with hundreds of stakeholders through the Chicago Continuum of Care. Joined together in a common vision, the public and private sectors have begun to implement the Plan, which calls for sweeping changes in how homeless services are delivered in Chicago. The common vision has three core tenets: Prevention, Housing First, and Wraparound Services.

Leslie Hairston is used to success. That is why it was no surprise that she upset an incumbent in her first race for 5th Ward Alderman. A Chicago native, who grew up in the 5th Ward’s Hyde Park and South Shore communities, she comes from a family rich in the tradition of community and civic service--which is what prompted her to run for alderman.

BodyCartography Project - Super Nature Installation (a performance for an audience of one)
An immersive experience offered to the public during SHIFT: A New Media Exhibit by Luftwerk, BodyCartography Project will present Super Nature Installation on October 11 and 12, 12–5 pm as part of the new SpinOff dance series.
BodyCartography Project presents Super Nature
Born out of the restless imaginations of Olive Bieringa & Otto Ramstad, this radical ecological melodrama is replete with artifice and animal appetites. The dance/performance/installation duo engages the wild and civilized aspects of human nature with idiosyncratic movement drawn from bodily impulses and social interactions.

Historic Chicago Bungalow Initiative
The Chicago-style bungalow was developed in the early 1900s in response to a pressing demand for middle-class housing during a period of dynamic growth in Chicago. The City of Chicago established the Historic Chicago Bungalow Initiative in 2000 to help foster an appreciation of the Chicago Bungalow as a distinctive housing type, to encourage sympathetic rehabilitation of Chicago bungalows, and assist bungalow owners with adapting their homes to modern and energy efficiency needs, which in turn helps to strengthen Chicago neighborhoods. The Initiative is administered by the Historic Chicago Bungalow Association.

Permeable Alleys
The City is creating a green infrastructure by utilizing unique open spaces to hold water that would normally drain directly into the sewer system. For instance, the City built a new kind of alley in a North Side community as part of a pilot project. The alley, constructed of a rigid grid system and gravel, allows rainwater to soak into the ground-reducing water flow into the sewer system and backyard flooding.
