What We Do

Accessibility Compliance

The Accessibility Compliance Unit (ACU) provides a broad range of services from building code permit approval on accessibility to initiatives designed to ensure that Chicago acheives its goal of being the most accessible city in the nation.

ACU provides:

  • Consultative services and technical assistance to business owners, architects and developers who are renovating or constructing a residential or public accommodation facility.
  • Disability rights related legal expertise and oversight on a number of projects and initiatives to ensure physical, programmatic, communication and technology accessibility. 
  • Answers to questions about the rights and responsibilities of business owners, employees and consumers under federal, state and local laws.
