What We Do

Transportation

As part of its mission, the Mayor's Office for People wtih Disabilities promotes an understanding of the issues of concern to people with disabilities, including accessible public transportation. 

As such, MOPD is actively involved in a variety of transportation issues to ensure accessible transportation options.

These activities include:

  • Representation on the Accessibility Advisory Committees for Pace Suburban Bus Company, Chicago Transit Authority and Regional Transit Authority agencies
  • Assistance with the State of Illinois Circuit Breaker Applications as an eligibility requirement for the People with Disabilities Circuit Ride Free Program
  • Advising on the best transportation options for people with disabilities who live and visit Chicago
  • Partnering with transportation agencies to increase public awareness about new services and policy initiatives
