GRID GARBAGE COLLECTIONGrid Garbage Collection Map

Beginning June 11, 2012 in targeted areas of the city, the Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation will begin to implement grid-based garbage collection services.

Used universally by municipalities and private haulers, a grid-based service model will allow sanitation crews to use the most efficient routes possible, reducing lost time and enabling the Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation to service more households with fewer resources.

NEW GARBAGE COLLECTION DAYS OF SERVICE

Effective the week of June 11, 2012, households who receive City of Chicago garbage collection services may be subject to a change in collection day. Residents who live within wards 40, 44, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, referenced in the color-shaded areas of the map below, should review the map to determine their day of service beginning the week of June 11, 2012. All residents will continue to receive weekly refuse collection.

 RECYCLING

Please note if your household receives curbside blue cart recycling services, your day of service will also change to the same day as your new garbage collection day, effective June 11, 2012, but your week of service will stay the same. If your household receives alley blue cart recycling, your services will remain the same.

We encourage you to share this information with your neighbors and appreciate your cooperation and flexibility during this transition as we work to make our services as efficient as possible for our residents.
