10 Year Plan to End Homelessness
n January 2003, the Mayor endorsed a 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness (the Plan) that was developed in conjunction with hundreds of stakeholders through the Chicago Continuum of Care. Joined together in a common vision, the public and private sectors have begun to implement the Plan, which calls for sweeping changes in how homeless services are delivered in Chicago. The common vision has three core tenets: Prevention, Housing First, and Wraparound Services.

Animal Kingdom
Animals are the most continuous and ancient subject in art. Since creating bisons and horses in the cave at Lascaux artists have continued through today to craft meaning with animal images. This exhibition of screenprints by Chicago artists looks at a variety of approaches employed by the local creative community in a medium that is widely popular and has an extensive audience nationally and internationally.

Budgetary Power to the People: Chicago's Experiment in Participatory Budgeting
Author Joel Handley will lead a panel discussion of the lessons to be learned from how the participatory budgeting program has worked in Chicago, and how effective it has been in empowering residents to take part in the fiscal decisions that impact their communities.

Chicago Air and Water Show
The Chicago Air and Water Show presented by Shell Oil Products U.S and the City of Chicago is the largest FREE show of its kind in the United States. The show can be viewed along the lakefront from Fullerton to Oak Street, with North Avenue Beach as the focal point.

 

Chicago Blues Festival
The Chicago Blues Festival is the largest free blues festival in the world and remains the largest of Chicago's Music Festivals. During three days on five stages, more than 500,000 blues fans prove that Chicago is the "Blues Capital of the World." Past performers include Bonnie Raitt, Ray Charles, B.B. King, the late Bo Diddley, Buddy Guy and the late Koko Taylor.

 

Chicago Blues Festival - Concert Film in Millennium Park
“The Blues had a baby,” sang Muddy Waters, “ and they named it rock and roll.” On November 22, 1981 at the tiny Checkerboard Lounge on Chicago’s south side, Muddy Waters and The Rolling Stones took the stage for a jam session with historic proportions.

Once again the Bronzeville neighborhood, the birthplace of Gospel music, will serve as the festival’s main home – with the weekend portion of the festival featuring two stages of music at Ellis Park (37th and Cottage Grove).

 

Chicago Jazz Festival

Chicago Workforce Centers - Services for Job Seekers
Chicago's five Workforce Centers and more than 30 community-based affiliate organizations offer a range of services to help. Chicagoans find and keep good-paying jobs. The Chicago Workforce Centers and affiliate organizations comprise the largest component of the Mayor's WorkNet Chicago, a citywide service delivery system of more than 130 community-based and private organizations.

This evening will be a special screening of the documentary film Code Name: Butterflies, a look at the history of the Dominican Republic under Trujillo and the efforts of the Mirabal sisters to overthrow his dictatorship.

 

Creative Living in the City Lecture Series
