Weatherization Installation

The Low-Cost Weatherization and Education Program (LCWEP) aims to prepare, educate and train Chicago residents in low cost weatherization techniques. C3 volunteers are trained in low-cost home weatherization techniques. Volunteers then train their neighbors and distribute and install weatherization kits.

What is included in a weatherization kit?

Bulb weatherstrip – durable edge seal for door and window openings
V-section weatherstrip – another durable edge seal for doors or windows
Window kit – plastic film and tape to cover windows and other large openings
Clear poly tape – for quick, temporary sealing needs, particularly cracked glass
Caulk, caulk gun and caulk cap – seals small gaps; applies white; dries clear
Foam rod – flexible foam rods for filling openings larger than ¼ inch
Compact Fluorescent Light bulb CFLs – energy-efficient light bulbs

How can I get involved?

1. Visit the C3 Event Calendar to find the weatherization workshop in your neighborhood.

2. Attend a weatherization workshop to obtain your low-cost weatherization kit.

3. Install your weatherization kit, complete the installation confirmation (available in English, Spanish, and Polish) and return it to the C3 leader or Student Club that organized your workshop and installation activities.

4. Keep in touch with the C3 leader or Student Club in your neighborhood for ongoing support and assistance. If you have lost touch with the C3 leader or Student Club, please email conservation@cityofchicago.org and we will be sure to connect you.
