As part of its ongoing effort to improve air quality, the City of Chicago is working with the Chicago Area Clean Cities (CACC) coalition and the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus to promote the use of alternative fuel vehicles—vehicles powered by "clean" fuels such as compressed natural gas, E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline), propane and biodiesel—in Chicago area fleets.

Booted Vehicle Information
On September 16, 1987, the City of Chicago established a vehicle immobilization program, better known as the boot program. Vehicles become boot-eligible when a registered owner accrues three (3) or more unpaid parking or red-light tickets in final determination status or (2) unpaid parking or red-light tickets in final determination status older than one year.

Contesting Parking, Red Light and Automated Speed Enforcement Tickets by Mail
As a registered owner of a vehicle, you have the right to contest the issuance of a parking or compliance ticket. You have seven (7) days from the date of issuance to contest a ticket.

 

Contesting Parking, Red Light and Automated Speed Enforcement Tickets in Person
As a registered owner of a vehicle, you have the right to contest the issuance of a parking, red light and automated speed enforcement ticket. You have seven (7) days from the date of issuance to contest a ticket issued to your vehicle. If you have not responded through payment or a hearing request, you will be mailed a Notice of Violation allowing you fourteen (14) days to request a hearing. At this point, you have the option to contest the ticket either by mail or in person.

 

Diesel Retrofit Program
The City of Chicago is retrofitting a portion of the City's diesel-powered fleet using oxidation catalysts (catalytic converters). The City plans to retrofit the entire diesel fleet over time, pending funding availability. The retrofits will improve air quality while reducing the risk of health problems related to diesel exhaust.

MOPD's Information and Referral staff assist people with disabilities in making more effective use of the health, education, training, economic and social resources available to them. Services are provided to people with disabilities, social service professionals, educators and the general public.

 

Driver's License Suspension
Motorists with 10 or more outstanding parking tickets or 5 or more outstanding red-light tickets that have reached Final Determination status are sent a Notice of Impending Drivers License Suspension (DLS). The DLS Notice informs the motorist that he or she has failed to pay the fines and penalties for 10 or more parking tickets or 5 or more red-light tickets.
