The Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing (AI) examines policies, practices, and local socioeconomic and housing market conditions and trends that may affect the ability of Chicago residents to choose housing in the city. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires that jurisdictions that receive Community Development Block Grant funds affirmatively further Fair Housing and promote integration by producing a comprehensive analyses of impediments to fair housing affecting their communities, developing a plan to address those impediments, and documenting progress in achieving goals to remove impediments. The AI for the City of Chicago was prepared by Applied Real Estate Analysis (AREA) Inc. in consultation with the City of Chicago Office of Budget and Management, Commission on Human Relations, Department of Planning and Development, Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities, Department of Family and Support Services, and the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA).
