The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced that the placement of concrete piers for the new Riverwalk underbridge connection will require the closure of the Franklin Street Bridge over the Chicago River for four days beginning on Thursday, October 22nd at 6 am. The bridge, which carries northbound traffic, will remain raised and closed at the river to vehicular and pedestrian traffic from Thursday through Sunday. The underbridge connection is part of the final phase of the Chicago Riverwalk, which is anticipated to be completed late in 2016.

Detour routes for pedestrians, vehicles and bicycles will be set up. Northbound vehicular traffic will be detoured east on Wacker Drive, north on LaSalle and then west on Grand Avenue.

CDOT is now working on Phase 3 of the Chicago Riverwalk, extending from LaSalle Street under the Wells Street and Franklin Street bridges to Lake Street. When Phase 3 is complete, the Riverwalk will provide a 1.25-mile continuous promenade from Lake Shore Drive to Lake St.
