Edgewater TIF

Designation: 1986    Expiration: 2009

The Edgewater TIF district was created to revitalize a blighted corner in a high-traffic part of the Edgewater community by enabling the construction of a contemporary retail structure with on-site parking. At the time of the district's formation, the site largely consisted of a vacant, one-story commercial structure, originally built as a bowling alley, and a deteriorating strip mall. The four-acre TIF was designated to provide funds to acquire and demolish the structures and provide new utilities, street surfaces, sidewalks and lighting to improve access to the site as well as an adjacent CTA transit station. Additionally, funds from the TIF are targeted for building rehabilitation within the district.
